Hey guys i need some help fixing my steam. Yesterday, i opened steam and it said it was updating. AFter a while, it said there was some error opening resource\overlay_korean.txt, and the updating just stopped. I tried uninstalling steam then reinstalling but it still won't work. Any help would be appreciated!

when you say reinstall... do you mean completley deleting and reinstalling or hitting the reinstall option button on steam installer?

well i figured out that it was a cyctic redundancy error in the overlay_korean.txt file
so basically i tried clearing my whole hard drive and just deleting everything and start anew but then i got the dreaded <window root>\system32\hal.dll is missing or corrupt message which causes a ton of problems. However, i got the windows xp disk and hopefully i can figure it out

you deleted the whole HDD?????? lol.... pointless if the problem was in steam... but reinstall windows and then steam or w/e u want and see if you get anymore errors.....

unfortunately while i was backing up all my files my compter restarted itself, then it said <windows root>\system32\hal.dll is misssing or corrupt. I searched it up online and found out that tons of ppl have this problem. So right now im tryin to find the right disk to repair my windows which is a drag since im only 15 and dont know much about computers...

lol pure...so helpful, Duhr did you build your computer or did you buy it from a company like dell or gateway? cause if you did... mine didn't even come with an installation cd, just a code...

i just bought it from frys its a hp laptop
i got the disk but my fan got fried or something so it the laptop shuts down every time i try opening it lol

Does it start? Or does it shutdown after like 20 mins or something?

well once i insert the disk the laptop starts humming really loud and like the fan goes super fast then it shuts down after like 5-10 minutes

yeah, sounds like either a fan got fried or is not working in some way as this is what happened to one of my friends laptops.... try propping your laptop up off the table (legos or something, building blocks ftw) and get a house fan and just blow air under it.... this sounds ghetto but it works. Also if you can take off the bottom of the laptop covering that would be better as more airflow can get down there.

the alternative if you just don't feel like doing that would be to send it somewhere to have it fixed... I would advise this if you don't know a whole lot about what your doing, or dont wanna mess it up more by chance.

yah my parents gave the laptop to someone to fix and ill know in a month if its working or not cause im in taiwan right now
